Batch distillation and equipment using is like old fashioned spirit making. The distiller fills in wide, steel, cylindrical container at the start, then heats it, as time goes by the vapors are condensed. When the proper quantity of overhead product is reached, the distiller stops the still and empties it out ready for a new batch. Despite this simple case which was used in as basic refined oil production, in industrial usage what goes on gets very complex.
With the increasing need to petroleum products, economic and modern continuous distillations take the place of batch distillation.
Process Specifications: Petroleum consists of hydrocarbons of various molecular weights and other organic compounds. Desired process is crude oil refining into more useful products such as petroleum naphtha, gasoline, diesel fuel, asphalt base, heating oil, kerosene and liquefied petroleum gas. Every refinery begins with the separation of crude oil into different fractions by distillation.
Distillation Crude oil is heated and put into a still—a distillation column—and different products boil off and can be recovered at different temperatures. In the process of fractional distillation, a mixture of different liquids is evaporated followed by condensation. Different liquids are evaporated according to their boiling point and they are collected in different chambers of distillation tower.

Fraction The process of separating a mixture into a series of fractions of different volatilities by means of distillation is known as fractional distillation. Crude oil heated in a fuel-fired furnace to a temperature of about 398 °C and routed into the bottom of the distillation unit. For desired products stowing and trays are added to system. The cooling and condensing of the distillation tower overhead is provided partially by exchanging heat with the incoming crude oil and partially by either an air-cooled or water-cooled condenser.
